Strengthening Women’s Role in Global Peacekeeping via United Nations Women Military Officer Course in Delhi,India

Delhi, India, 10 August 26 -The Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC) acknowledges the dedicated involvement of *Major Sathiyaah Asokumar* in the *United Nations Women Military Officers Course (UNWMOC-ASEAN)*, held from 10 to 21 August 2026 at the *Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK)* and Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, India. Announced at the 3rd India-ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Kuala Lumpur in 2025, this milestone initiative reinforces regional defence cooperation and underscores a shared commitment to enhancing gender inclusion and capacity building across UN Peacekeeping operations.

Throughout the two-week pre-deployment programme, participants engaged in comprehensive modules encompassing the UN legal framework, Women, Peace and Security (WPS) priorities, Protection of Civilians, and the strategic use of force in conflict zones.

A key highlight of the course was an interaction with General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Indian Army, who felicitated the 11 women officers from ASEAN member states alongside Indian women military officers. He commended their dedication and pivotal contribution toward driving women's participation in international peace missions. MPC remains steadfast in empowering Malaysian Armed Forces personnel on the global stage as we continue to advance multilateral cooperation, security, and world peace.

The rigorous schedule balanced academic discussions with practical field exposure, including tactical demonstrations at the Carriappa Parade Ground, crowd control exercises, and "Ex Blue Helmets" case study analysis. High-level lectures by veteran military leaders and former UN Force Commanders provided invaluable operational insights, complemented by enrichment visits to iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, PM Sangrahalaya, and the Red Fort.
