Major Mohd Fauzi bin Ismail was appointed as an instructor for the United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) Course, while Major Mohd Naim bin Mustapha successfully completed the course as a participant. The course was held at the Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC) in Canadian Forces Base Kingston, Canada, from 1st to 26th June 2026, providing comprehensive preparation for personnel undertaking duties as UNMO in multinational peace support missions.
This course aims to enable participants to perform the duties of an UNMO within a UN Multi-dimensional peacekeeping force. PSTC leverage their unique position to form partnerships with like-minded facilities around the world to develop instructor and student exchanges to ensure that they have access to the most contemporary policies, procedures and best practices with regard to the training related to Peacekeeping Operations. This course was developed to ensure that all participants have a good balance between theory and practical application of skills.
The course merged a balanced combination of classroom teaching, interactive syndicate activities, operational planning exercises and mission-focused simulations to enhance participants' knowledge, judgement and practical application of UNMO responsibilities. In addition to strengthening operational competencies, the programme facilitated meaningful engagement among military professionals representing various nations, encouraging the exchange of operational perspectives, the development of professional networks and a shared commitment to the principles and practices of United Nations peace support operations.
