The United Nations Association Malaysia (UNAM), in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the United Nations in Malaysia, were commemorating the 79th Anniversary UN Day on 24th October 2024, with a forum titled The United Nations – Eight Decades, Issues, and Challenges. This UN forum was held at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), officiated by The Honorable Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It was an honoured and privileged for MPC to be part of the event. Col Noor Azman bin Hj Yahya, the MPC’s Commandant served as one of the key speakers at the event, has shared his insights and experiences in Peacekeeping Operations. The forum also aims to enhance understanding on Malaysia’s role and its contribution at the UN peacekeeping operations towards the younger generation, identifying significant challenges and issues encountered, and exploring potential avenues for future collaboration and progress.
MPC additionally presented an exhibition highlighting its contributions to global peacekeeping efforts. The exhibition featured an overview of roles and task of MPC in promoting peace and security, and the initiatives that have positioned Malaysia as a key player in global peacekeeping efforts. Also present as key speakers were Ms. Karima El Korri, UN Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, and Tan Sri Hamidon Ali, Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, who also shared valuable insights on the UN’s role in Malaysia.
