Major Zazalina binti Ghazali, the Directing Staff of Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC), has supported the Integrated Training Service (ITS) of United Nations Department Peace Operations (DPO) as an instructional staff for the delivery of the Training of Trainers Course on United Nations Force Protection, at the Peacekeeping Operations Center in Nonsan, Republic of Korea (RoK), from 22 July to 02 August 2024. In total, 29 Course Participants participated including Military, Police, and Civilian personnel from 14 Countries.
The operational environment has evolved significantly, growing both in size and complexity. Hence, the United Nations Force Protection course is conducted to enhance the capabilities of Member States in delivering reinforcement training on Force Protection for United Nations military and Formed Police Units deployed to UN Peacekeeping missions. In order to reflect these realities and prepare peacekeepers for the multi-dimensional realities on the ground, this force protection training package aims to demonstrate the complex linkages between protection tasks, and provide training guidance on how to prevent, deter and respond to the interrelated threats.
This training module that combines conceptual, legal, and operational aspects are mainly to support the tactical planning of units to operate in peacekeeping operations, with the capability of analysing the threats, as well as the planning for and response to complex crises, which involving the elements from the POC, Child Protection, and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence realms. The course was officially opened and closed by the Korean National Defense University (KNDU) President, Rear Admiral Kim Young Cheal, and the Course Director from ITS-DPO, Mr. Rafael Barbieri. Also present was the Director of the ROKPOC, Col Moon Dongsu.
