The Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC) successfully completed the Gender and Protection Course Serial 1/2024 in collaboration with the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), United States. Ms Reiko Hirai, the leader Subject Matter Expert (SME) from GPOI, has led the course along with 2 other GPOI instructors throughout a 5-day period from 13th until 17th May 2024. 26 course participants (CP) attended this course comprising of 16 local CPs from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and 10 International CPs from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, and Philippines.
The course is designed to prepare all CPs with a profound knowledge and understanding of gender-related issues and their effects, consequences, and implications in a multidimensional operation. All CPs also shall be able to be the Gender and Protection focal point or role model and apply the knowledge within organisation or whenever they are deploying as UN Peacekeeper in future. This course also highlighting on producing the Decision Making Process in mitigating related issues concerning on Gender and Protection in supporting every mission planning process and operations based on present UN gender policy.
The course was officially closed on 17th May 2024 by Brig Gen Hjh Fadzillah binti Hj Abdullah RMAF, the Director General of Malaysian Armed Forces Defence Training. Also present are Col Noor Azman bin Haji Yahaya, Commandant of MPC, the Bangladesh Defence Adviser, and the Indonesian Defence Attache.
